Public Bus System on Crete

Crete has an extensive network of buses, you can go almost everywhere by public transport which is named KTEL. KTEL bus service has improved a lot in the recent years but driving the public bus is still an experience:

Also if buses during the summer season are quite accurate - still buses are not punctually. Due to the long distances and depending on the stops, buses can be at a specific stop earlier or later then scheduled. So if you need to catch the bus at a certain time, be at the bus-stop (blue sign with white KTEL letters) a couple of minutes before the scheduled departure time. Also, when at the bus stop give a handsign so that the driver knows you want to hop on.

If there are loads of people waiting at the bus stop, it may occur that the bus just drives by when there is only little space available on the bus.
